Chile is actively pursuing growth in the Philippine market, with a keen focus on increasing exports of fresh fruit, seafood, and pork. This strategic push aims to bolster bilateral trade relations between the two nations, building upon an already robust agri-food trade setting. The Philippines, in turn, has emerged as an increasingly important destination for Chilean exporters, ranking third among ASEAN countries for Chilean agri-food exports in 2025.

Rapid Trade Growth

The Philippine market has witnessed a striking surge in Chilean agri-food shipments. In 2025, total exports to the Philippines reached nearly USD 66 million, marking a substantial 26 percent increase from the previous year. This upward trajectory has not only been sustained but accelerated into 2026, with the first quarter alone seeing a nearly 53 percent increase in Chilean agri-food exports to the Philippines.

This trade momentum is part of broader Chilean efforts to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia. The Chile-ASEAN Business Summit 2026, held in Bangkok, served as a significant catalyst for this expansion. Organized by ProChile, the summit provided a platform for 28 Chilean companies to engage with buyers from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, resulting in over 300 business meetings.

Expanding Categories

Pork maintains its status as Chile’s leading export category in the Philippine market, with seafood volumes demonstrating steady growth to match this dominance. Meanwhile, the demand for premium imported products, particularly wine, presents an enticing opportunity for Chilean exporters. However, it is the fresh fruit sector that is positioned to drive the most significant growth.

Chile currently enjoys phytosanitary access for a diverse range of fresh fruit varieties in the Philippine market, including cherries, grapes, blueberries, and kiwifruit. This access allows Chilean exporters to tap into the Philippine market’s growing appetite for high-quality, imported produce. Despite this, Oscar Arriagada, ProChile Trade Commissioner for Thailand and the Philippines, acknowledges that buyer awareness of these available fruit varieties remains limited, and export volumes are still far below their potential.

Arriagada’s insights highlight the existing potential for growth in the fresh fruit sector. With more than ten fruit varieties already approved for export, the stage is set for Chilean exporters to capitalize on the Philippine market’s demand for diverse and high-quality produce. To fully realize this potential, however, increased market education and promotional efforts will be key to raise buyer awareness and stimulate demand for Chilean fresh fruits.

The successful conclusion of the Chile-ASEAN Business Summit 2026 and the subsequent surge in trade activity show the Philippines’ growing importance as a trade partner for Chile. As Chile continues to push for deeper food and agribusiness ties with the Philippines, both nations stand to benefit from this mutually enriching trade relationship. With a keen focus on expanding exports of fresh fruit, seafood, and pork, Chile is poised to further consolidate its position as a key player in the Philippine agri-food market.
